jan 1, 1874 - WCTU formed
Description:
Woman’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was one of the most influential groups in the passing of the 18th Amendment. Originally they were dedicated only to prohibition but later became very involved in topics such as labor laws, prison reform, and suffrage.
They first entered the temperance fight to stop alcoholic husbands from beating their wives and then stayed because they saw improvements everywhere when alcohol was banned.
