jul 1, 1842 - Mines and Colleries Act

Description:

This was the first piece of legislation that dealt with the mines. It prohibited all underground work for women and girls of any age and for boys under 10. There was the belief that conditions were immoral which led to unrest. Tory reformers were sympathetic to it and so agreed with this reform.
