mar 15, 44 BC - Assassination of Julius Caesar
Description:
Led by Gaius Cassius Longinus, Decimus Junius Brutus Albinus, Marcus Junius Brutus, and many other Roman senators, Julius Caesar was assassinated on the Ides of March.
This is significant as the death of Caesar subsequently led to the formation of the Second Triumvirate by Lex Titia in 43 AD. The Roman empire was then effectively split between Octavian and Anthony, and future conflict ensued.
