Description:

It was passed in the state of South Carolina in response to the Stono Rebellion. This act made illegal for enslaved Africans to move abroad, assemble in groups, raise food, earn money and lear to write. The owners were also permited to kill rebellious slaves if necessary. The act remained in effect until 1865.
