mar 31, 1948 - Cairo-Haifa train bombing

Description:

During the 1948 Palestine war, the Lehi militant group targeted the Cairo-Haifa train on two occasions with devastating effects. On February 29, a mine detonated north of Rehovot killed 28 British soldiers and wounded 35, with no civilian casualties reported. Lehi claimed responsibility, citing revenge for the Ben Yehuda Street bombing. On March 31, another mining near Binyamina resulted in 40 civilian deaths, mostly Arabs, and 60 injuries; soldiers on the train were unharmed. These attacks were part of a broader campaign against British and transportation targets that began in 1947, including multiple bombings of train tracks and military trains which caused numerous casualties and disrupted rail services.
