may 16, 1964 - Mobs and Rockers riots

Description:

Ever since rock and roll entered Britain in 1955, the subculture of rockers was apart of youth culture in the 1950s.

Rockers wore leather jackets, rode motorcycles and listen to rock and roll.

In contrast Mobs rode scooters, wore suits and listen to pop music.

There was conflict between the two subcultures, most notably with the riots in Clacton, Margate and Brighton,.

The Brighton riots went on for two days. Most of the violence was exaggerated by the publics reaction with descriptions of knife-wielding hooligans.
