jul 14, 1918 - Battle of Abu Tellul
Description:
The Battle of Abu Tellul, also known as the Affair of Abu Tellul, occurred on July 14, 1918, during the Sinai and Palestine Campaign of World War I. German and Ottoman forces launched an attack on British garrison positions in the Jordan Valley, which had been under the control of the British-led Egyptian Expeditionary Force since capturing Jericho in February 1918. The battle focused on defending the heights at Mussallabeh and Abu Tellul near the Judean Hills and included significant engagements at Wadi Mellaha and across the Jordan River. Despite intense fighting and initial successes by the attacking forces, the British, including Australian and Indian units, repelled the attacks, marking the last significant offensive against British forces in this campaign. The battle highlighted the deteriorating relations between the German and Ottoman forces and showcased the defensive capabilities of the British-led troops.
