jun 7, 1494 - Treaty of Tordesillas
Description:
The Treaty of Tordesillas was an agreement between Spain and Portugal, arbitrated by the Pope, to divide newly discovered lands outside Europe. The treaty drew a line through the Atlantic Ocean, with lands to the west of the line (most of the Americas) granted to Spain and lands to the east (including Africa and most of Asia) to Portugal, profoundly influencing the course of colonialism in the New World.
