jul 9, 1868 - 14th Amendment is Ratified
Description:
The 14th amendment improved the African American and women suffrage. The 14th amendment was ratified on July 9th 1868 and instantly granted citizenship granted to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States,” which had included African American slaves that were free. This amendment also defended the right of any person to have life, liberty, and prosperity. This was important because it helped give African Americans rights, which others took a long time. The amendment was one step closer to abolishing alvery.
