jan 22, 1987 - ACT UP Founded
Description:
ACT UP (Aids Coalition to Unleash Power) is founded in New York City. The group's tactics rejuvenate lesbian and gay activism. The organization was founded at the Lesbian and Gay Community Services Center in Manhattan, New York, in response to what was seen as the U.S. government’s lack of action on the growing number of deaths from HIV infection and AIDS. Not only did it promote rights for LGBT, but also promoted better healthcare for people susceptible to these deadly diseases.
