Description:

Germany sent a note that planned to side with Mexico with the incentive that they could win back lost US territory if they fought alongside Germany in the scenario that the US engaged in war. News of the quickly captured and decoded telegram brought further public incentive to take up arms against Germany (Archives.gov).
