the first human heart transplant was performed by Surgeon Christiaan Barnard the heart was given to Louis Washkansky at Groote Schuur Hospital he was a grocer dying from heart disease, he got the heart from Denise Darvall, a 25-year-old woman who was in a fatal car accident.
