jan 1, 435 BC - Battle
of Leukimme
Description:
Messangers soon arrived at Corinth with the news of the siege - Corinth began to prepare a relief force with several allies in exchange of wealth. (60 ships & 3,000 hoplites in total at the time).
Eventually the Corcyraeans heard of these preparations & sent an embassy where both Corinth & Corcyra proposed & counter claimed which ended in disagreement & Corinthian declaration of war.
With preparations finished a combined fleet of 75 ships & 2,000 hoplites were set to sail to Epidamnus - Corcyra, with 80 ships battle ready could only send 40 ships ( the other 40 was besieging Epidamnus) to halt the Corinthians at Leukimme.
The Corcyraeans won the battle decisively - destroying 15 enemy ships & on the same day Epidamnus surrendered to the besiegers.
