jan 1, 435 BC - Dispute
Over
Epidamnus
Description:
The Democrats, in a dire situation sent an embassy to Corcyra ( Epidamnus' mother colony). The Corcyraeans refused & caused the people of Epidamnus to look for help elsewhere (Asking Oracle of Delphi for answers) The Oracle reply was that they should hand over their city to Corinth (the mother country of Corcyra)
The Corinthians, disliking the Corcyraeans due to their hubris & disrespect, as well as enjoyed Epidamnian respect accepted to assist them, as they also regarded the colony as belonging just as much to them as to Corcyra.
And so the Corinthians force marched a force with future settlers to Apollonia ( a corinthian colony) to avoid naval confrontation with Corcyra & unto Epidamnus.
Once the Corcyraeans found out that the settlers and the troops arrived at Epidamnus & that the city was handed over to the Corinthian, they reacted violently (As this area was Corcyraean sphere of influence) - Corcyra put 25 ships followed by reinforcements to Epidamnus with demands to reinstate the exiled party (Aristocrats).
The Democratic Epidamnians rejected them & a combined fleet of 40 ships began siege of the city - The exiled party with their Illyrian army did so aswell on land.
