apr 9, 1948 - Deir Yassin
Description:
During the civil war, both sides wanted to get control of the roads to Jerusalem.
Irgun and Lehi attacked the small village of Deir Yassin, which was near the road to Jerusalem. Over 100 Arab inhabitants were massacred.
The Haganah condemned the massacre. However, Jewish leaders also tried to make Deir Yassin into a 'legend' to make Plan D easier.
The Arab leadership tried to use it as propaganda to villainise the Jews and make sure that the Arabs kept hating them. However, it actually meant that Palestinians were terrified and fled the land. There were now many Palestinian refugees, and the Israelis took over their land.
