sep 3, 1947 - UN presents partition plan
Description:
The United Nations Special Committee on Palestine (UNSCOP), which had been formed to find a solution to the problem of Palestine, came back with their suggestions.
They suggested a partition plan. The Palestinian Arabs would have Gaza and the West Bank, and Jews would have the rest of the country, including a thin passage between Gaza and the West Bank. Jerusalem, which holds great religious value for both parties, would be an international zone accessible by a thin corridor through the West Bank.
Most of the Jews (apart from extremists, who wanted Jerusalem) accepted the plan, but the Arabs rejected it.
