jan 4, 1651 - First Navigation Act

Description:

- Strengthened in the 1660s
- Required colonists to ship enumerated items (sugar, tobacco, etc.) to England ONLY (targeting American-Dutch trade)
- Required all Euro. goods going to colonies to be put through English ports to PAY DUTIES
- Colonists, at this point, only cared a little about this. Easily got around the law by smuggling.
