jan 1, 1928 - The Meriam Report

Description:

By the 1920s it was clear there were major economic, social, and health problems on the reservations. The poverty on the reservations was undeniable. In gratitude for the Indians’ services to the country in World War I, Congress in 1924 authorised the Meriam Survey of the state of life on the reservations. The shocking conditions under the regimen established by the Dawes Act (1887), as detailed in the Meriam report of 1928, spurred demands for reform.
