James Watt invented the steam engine in 1765 which allowed a mechanical device to perform work and it replaced pumps fueled by coal and steam engines were also used by the textile industry. By 1800, more than 1800 steam engines were used in the British Isles. Steamboats later made migration much easier, as it made the movement of labor cheaper.Added to timeline:
