jan 1, 925 BC - Battle of Bitter Lakes

Description:

The Battle of Bitter Lakes occurred during Shoshenq I's military campaign into Asia in 925 BCE. It was fought at Bitter Lakes, possibly at the frontier channel guarding the eastern border of Lower Egypt. The conflict began with a border incursion by nomads, which Shoshenq used as a pretext to invade Judah. Leading his chariotry, including his royal scribe Hori, Shoshenq surprised and defeated the enemy at the shores of Bitter Lakes.

The Great Karnak Inscription in Hall K mentions Shoshenq's victory at Bitter Lakes, stating that he made great slaughter among the enemy. The inscription also lists the cities invaded by Shoshenq's armies, including Taanach, Esdraelon, Aijalon, Megiddo, Zemaraim, Bethel, and Tirzah, with additional evidence of the incursion found in a Shoshenq stela in Megiddo.
