Description:

The serial killer, Jack the Ripper, was never caught. The investigation highlighted these problems with the police at this time:
- poor investigation skills (although new ones were tried, e.g. bloodhounds)
- poor training
- poor pay
- poor communication between different forces operating in London
- a lack of technology and therefore a reliance on eyewitnesses
