jan 1, 1863 - Emancipation Proclamation

Description:

This speech given by Abraham Lincoln marked the end of the Civil War, and essentially freed all slaves in America. With slavery abolished, African-Americans were free to do as they pleased, including a right to be educated. However, they still would face an immense amount of discrimination.
