1.1 is a major update to Java Edition released on January 12, 2012, which adds spawn eggs, support for multiple languages, the Superflat world type, and beaches. It is the first update to begin using snapshots, and to add 56 languages, and the first major release that did not introduce any new blocks. There were no minor versions to 1.1. It was the first version to be released under Jens Bergensten as the lead creative developer of Minecraft.
