jan 1, 1946 - National School Lunch Act
Description:
This was a federal law that created the National School Lunch Program to give low cost or free lunches to students who could not otherwise afford to eat. At the time, this was significant because it was yet another way that leveled the playing field for all children so to speak. It was one less advantage some students had over others. It is relevant today, as the National School Lunch Program still exists to feed hungry students who typically would not have been able to eat lunch.
