Jeremy Bentham was a social reformer inspired by George Paul's prison. He wanted to improve the efficiency of prisons, and worked on a prison design called the Panopticon.
The Panopticon:
- would have needed few warders
- would have reformed prisoners through useful work, the products of which would have been sold
- was an unpopular idea
