For nearly 2 years, the elder Dalgrod Mountainjaw ran many tests on the summit. He wanted his village to eventually use the power the volcano emitted to power their forges. he made a grave discovery however. The Volcano was a stable portal. to the plane of fire. This bode well for the power to run the forges, but this exposed his town to the dangers of elementals. He worked with his juniors to craft a protective forcefield around the town, one to protect against elementals. He swore them to secret, never letting the greater population know. he formed a council of elders to delegate the project to.
