mar 24, 1774 - Coercive or "Intolerable" Acts

Description:

Coercive acts closed the Boston ports, allowed officers to be tried in the British court, provided quartering for soldiers, and drastically lowered the self-government in Massachusetts. The Act was a reaction to the colonial Boston Tea Party.
The colonists reacted to the acts by establishing a colonial congress because their liberty hsd been menaced.
