Description:
Étienne Charles de Brienne, the french finance minister, proposed fiscal and financial reforms but they were ultimately rejected by the Parlement of Paris. The king responded by sending the Paris Parlement into exile at Troyes, hoping to force their compliance, however this triggered significant public unrest and some violence.
