Description:
James I was in fact James VI of Scotland. He united England, Ireland and Scotland, and was a Protestant, having been brought up away from his Catholic mother (Mary, Queen of Scots), but he was tolerant of Catholics.
However, the English disliked him because he was Scottish, and the Catholics disliked him because he was a Protestant.
