Description:
Babington was in secret correspondence with Mary, Queen of Scots, who Elizabeth had imprisoned when she had fled to England. Babington and Mary were Catholics, and Babington intended to put Mary on the English throne. However, the letters were intercepted by Elizabeth's spies, and Babington and Mary were executed. Mary's beheading was said to be particularly painful.
