Description:
Edward III passed the Justices of the Peace Act to keep the peace at a county level. JPs had been appointed for all areas in 1327, but the Act appointed 3/4 JPs per county.
Justices of the Peace:
- were selected because of power and wealth
- were harsh on poachers as they were landowners
- could fine people
- could arrest people
