Description:
Sparta's king Leonidas I and 300 Spartans fought the Persian army at the pass of Thermopylae, giving the rest of the Greek army the ability to retreat and regroup. The Persians eventually reached Athens and burned the Acropolis down.
The Battle of Salamis was the turning point in the war. The outnumbered Greek army defeated the Persians in a sea battle, forcing Xerxes to retreat into Asia Minor.
