nov 8, 1923 - Munich Putsch

Description:

By 1923, the Nazis were still a minority party, but Hitler had given them a high profile. In November 1923, Hitler thought it was the moment to topple the Weimar government, Stresemann had just called off passive resistance in the Ruhr and was more focused on the economic crisis of Germany at the time. And so, on the 8th of November 1923, Hitler hijacked a local government meeting and announced he was going to take over the government of Bavaria.

Nazi stormtroopers started taking over official buildings, but the next day the Weimar government fought back. Police rounded up the stormtroopers and 16 Nazis were killed by the police. Hitler escaped in a car and realized he had miscalculated his plan. (the rest of the Munich Putsch is in depth study B)
