sep 29, 1764 - The Sugar Act goes into use

Description:

The Sugar Act actually reduced the tax on sugar from the Molasses Act, but it helped catch smugglers by using Writs of Assistance. It allows officers to examine colonists, and if they are suspected of possessing smuggled goods, then they would try them in Great Britain, where the judges dislike them. Americans did not like having their freedom stripped away. They also did not like paying taxes that did not help their towns in any way.
