The Anaconda Plan was a Union strategy devised by General Winfield Scott at the beginning of the Civil War. It aimed to defeat the Confederacy by blocking the Southern ports and controlling the Mississippi River to split the South in two. The plan ended up being very affect, because the cutting off of the Confederac resources untamental lead to their surrender in 1865.
