jun 28, 1778 - The Battle of Monmouth

Description:

The American army outnumbered its foe two-to-one and had taken extreme training in the art of war. General Charles Lee, Washington's subordinate, lacked confidence in the army's abilities. Because he failed to press this advantage, Lee ceded the initiative to his British counterpart, General Charles Lord Cornwallis. In an angry confrontation on the field of battle, Washington removed Lee from command. Washington continued the assault on the British. After a long battle, Washington withdrew from the battle, saying his men were “beat out and with heat and fatigue.”
