jan 1, 400 - Egeria's Diary of Pilgrimage
Description:
The diary that Egeria wrote serves as evidence of the nature and importance of religious pilgrimage towards the end of the fourth century. It also provides insights into the liturgical life, monastic life, and architecture of the church at that time.
Egeria was probably a nun from northwest Spain towards the end of the 4th century who went on pilgrimage to The Holy Land. While journeying through Sinai, Egypt, Palestine, and Mesopotamia, she used the Bible as her guidebook and local ascetics as her guides to experience the many holy sites.
