jan 1, 337 - Emperor Constantine

Description:

Emperor Constantine of Rome rose to power through a series of military victories and associated moves towards the Christian faith. Most notably the defeat of Maxentius on the Bridge of the Tiber, which elevated Constantine to Augustus of the West, made Constantine the first Christian emperor of Rome. He would later go on to overthrow Licinius to become the sole emperor of the Roman Empire and make Christianity the official religion of the empire with the Edict of Milan. He also moved the capital to Constantinople and presided at the council of Nicea.
