jan 16, 1859 - John Brown's Raid

Description:

John Brown, a prominent abolitionist who often got involved with violent conflicts (most notably the Pottawatomie massacre where he and his sons killed 5 people with swords), wanted to incite a slave revolt. He planned on raiding Harpers Ferry for weapons and giving them to the slaves, allowing them to fight back. The raid was unsuccessful as he was captured and swiftly hung. This was just one of the major conflicts happening within the two disputed areas.
