jul 5, 1852 - What to the Slave is the 4th of July
Description:
This was a speech by Douglass about the freedom of slaves. This was yet another significant work which garnered support for the the abolitionist movement. He highlights the glaring hypocrisy of the US as a nation supposedly built on the idea of freedom, going as far as writing it into the Declaration of Independence, does not grant freedom to anybody but white men, leaving slaves with little to no rights.
