oct 12, 1984 - Brighton Hotel Bombing
Description:
Many IRA attacks were happening even before Thatcher got elected, such as the killing of MP Airey Neave by a bomb in his car. However the IRA would commit the most chocking act of terrorism in October.
During the Conservatives Party's press conference in the Grand Hotel, a bomb was set off. Five people were killed and 31 were injured, some being household names.
Thatcher, despite the attack, continued her speech the following morning saying "all attempts to destroy democracy by terrorism will fail".
