jun 26, 1968 - Keef Hartley's Apaches
Description:
(though it appeared on Fletcher's hastily printed publicity bills as Keff Hartley's Apaches)
The Toby Jug, Tolworth, London
The drummer had parted company from the Bluesbreakers at the end of April, and appeared with his own line-up. The 'Apache' business came from Keef's fondness for performing dressed as an American Indian, in full head-dress and dramatic war paint. In August 1963 the 19-year-old Hartley had become one of a succession of drummers working with Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, after Ringo Starr had left to join some other local group. Keef even used Ringo's old stage clothes, including pink shirt and blue mohair suit.
