Description:

Christian monk and theologian in the 4th century who played a significant role in shaping early Christian monastic thought. He was one of the first to systematically identify and classify acedia as one of the "thoughts" that are considered sources of temptations. He viewed acedia not only as a spiritual failing but also as a psychological struggle involving thoughts, emotions, and behavioural tendencies. This integration of the spiritual and psychological aspects foreshadowed the holistic approach that contemporary psychology adapted (Rivas, 2017; Jackson, 1985).
