nov 21, 815 - Roman-Frankish Agreement of 815

Description:

When Nikephoros was tired of being on campaign year after year, the Frankish king, Charlemagne, offered a deal that Frankish army would restore Dalmatia and Dacia to Roman rule in under a year, and then march into Bulgari itself if needed and take the capital; in return, he would be crowned as an Emperor, and his grandson Louis would marry Nikephoros’ daughter Martina when she turned fifteen. Nikephoros agreed, and sent grain to Dalmatian coast and Venice as the provision of Frankish troops.
