According to the official website, "SCARAB is a mass multi-user persona linked to a decentralized artist collective through a cryptocurrency token.

In order for the process to work, members must hold a Scarab Token in a linked account so that they can vote. SCARAB creates a work of art through an algorithmic imaging method process for every 1,000 artworks submitted.

Using this process each artwork is integrated with the artwork submitted before it and every thousandth submission ends the cycle by sending the image out for fabrication producing a single artwork of SCARAB." This process was originally intended to produce a quantity of 50 unique, community made works of art.

Those 50 tokens are represented by the SCARABART token.
