Artist, Nili Lerner, released in September of 2014 a very early and historical "NILIcoins" project which included tokens to represent proportional ownership of her artwork.

The project consisted of 11 tokens: 7 brandname tokens referencing popart, 3 social art tokens and 1 NILI representing ownership of physical art. She mentioned, "The tokens were also made to illustrated different future monetary models yet were created as the art objects itself".

She also stated on the debut Bitcointalk post that NILIcoins were created to "promote a competitive credit-provides ecosystem". Nili went on to explain on her Twitter that these tokens "are created and sold as crypto art objects, not a as a financial asset. 80% of most tokens will not be available to own privately (only as holding and as part of a DAO)."
