The Songhai Empire was the largest end last of the three major pre-colonial Empires to emerge in West Africa. The capital of the songhai empire was Gao it lied on the Niger River, Songhai expanded in all directions until it stretched to the Atlantic Ocean. Goa still remains till this day a small Niger River trading hub.
