The Election of 1860 was between Stephen Douglas, Abraham Lincoln, and others. Lincoln only got 40% of popular vote, but surpassed everyone with the Electoral college vote. The end of the election immediatly lead to the outbreak of the Civil War.This election is so important becuase it allowed Linoln in office who shaped America as it is today, with the abolishment of slavery and towards the steps of equality.
