Description:

The Lincoln versus Douglas Debate is a series of seven debates against Democratic, Stephen Douglas, and Republican, Abraham Lincoln. Douglas wanted to make all races equal, and Lincoln wanted to unify the union after the destruction with the Civil War. Each debate was about three hours long and varied from seven different locations. The debates started in August 21, 1858, and ended in October 15, 1858. It was significant because it propelled Lincoln into a political career, and foreshadowed the election of 1860. This led to Lincoln's presidental reign including the Civil War, emanicpation proclmation, and declared slaves as people.
