Description:

This Civil Constitution of the Clergy was meant to reorganize what had become of the Catholic church in France. The goal was to get rid of the corruption within the church itself. Another goal was to put Catholicism in place as the state religion and decrease the political affect it held over the people. Though the goal was to somewhat unify France it ended up dividing it even more than it had been before.
